It's coming.......... the anniversary of the day I first tasted mimosa and embarked upon a legendary day.......... solstice saturday in Santa B-bay (santa barbara, that is). Technically Saturday June 21, 2003 was the day it occurred, but to truley celebrate the anniversary of the mimosa day for me requires the solstice saturday parade in Santa Barbara, which happens the 24th this year (saturday!!!!!!!)
mimosas start the day then it's off to watch the pagan parade at noon! Everyone will be gettin jiggy and showing off (much as they can since getting whitewashed and corporatized) the alternative/hippie/ funkadelic origins that are at the heart of Santa Barbara. Sometimes you might wanna take a little gatorade/ flavor-aid/ don't-be-a-hater-ade/ throw-up-later-ade for this to keep you tided over until bands and DJs in the park begin! There will be a beer garden no doubt there but what's the fun in drinking a beer in a fenced off drunkards-only area... we get some sippy cups going for cruising the vast expanses of lawn there.
This was traditionally (i.e. 2003) a time to shake your moneymaker with bands only, but 2005 marked the year we began with a new "techno corner" as I heard the crowd call it... and was un-fucking-believable how enthusiastic the crowd was.... they were crazier for that than the bands I dare say.. and I got to spin for these people! And again will this year, albeit "b2b" with another dj, Lee. Probably a good pairing, considering I've trainspotted his tracks more than many other DJs..
After a full day of sun-worship in these sundry ways, it's off to the after-parties. Could be dinner time, could be showtime, at any rate it is a continuation of the celebration for as long as you can keep the boogie flowin...
and eric, if you're reading........... this year I will be at James and allisons with more than parched lips and empty hands ;D

Fri, June 23, 2006 - 12:14 PMHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Lady Sparkle, Duchess of Bubbly, you are quite right. A celebration within a celebration (within a Celebration) is in order. More champagne!!! More OJ!!! More dancing freaksies in wacky costumes!!! Basically, and to quote Pope: "MORE!!!"
Nice memory on the Gatorade/throw up laterorade. I think you got every stanza right.
We will see you at the usual mimosa locale, early on. I have a vested interested in 'mosas, since I'm fighting of the cold right now. Vitamin C with a bit o' bubbly is just the thing I need... -
